Ghost disciples are followers of the evil priest Necrovarus and worshippers of the Ectofuntus. You can talk to them to learn how the Ectofuntus works and claim 5 Ecto-tokens for each pot of Bonemeal and Bucket of slime the player uses to worship the fountain since they are not able to do it themselves as ghosts.
